Serving Up Style at the U.S. Open

A fortnight of sophisticated fashion at Flushing Meadow

Opening day of the United States Open draws tennis fans from around the world to the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York. While tennis is the main attraction, the annual event — the last of the prestigious Grand Slam tournaments — is also a fortnight of style and the perfect opportunity to showcase your favorite pair of SWIMS loafers.

Though not as formal as Wimbledon or the French Open, the U.S. Open holds its own when it comes to fashion in the grandstands. Matches on center court always attract a big crowd of well-dressed A-List celebrities and fashion trendsetters, from David Beckham and Ralph Lauren to Jay-Z and Beyonce. And, of course, champions like Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic provide thrilling performances on court, they also bring their fashion A-game to the Open’s many parties and receptions.

Heading to the U.S. Open this year — or simply want to look the part? Here are three looks you might consider, each paired with the perfect men’s loafer:

Modern Traditionalist

You can’t go wrong with a perfectly tailored dark blue suit or blazer. Wear it with a crisp, open-collared shirt and add a dash of fashion with a pocket square. SWIMS Pairing: Penny Loafer in Brown, Black or Khaki.

End-of-Summer Sophisticate

Since the U.S. Open falls over the last weeks of summer, including Labor Day in the United States, it’s a perfect time to make a slight pivot to more fall colors. Consider a lightweight beige sports coat with a linen shirt and dark jeans or chinos — and don’t forget to bring a perfect pair of sunglasses. SWIMS Pairing: Lace Loafer Woven in Black or Khaki.

Winning Colors

The crowds at Flushing Meadows are known to be among the most colorful in tennis. Let that be your fashion cue and be a little more daring with your Open dress:  a bright blazer, colorful slacks or dramatic patterned shirt. Champions never win by playing it safe. SWIMS Pairing:  Penny Loafer Driver in Blitz Blue, Red or Gray.
